I have worked in local government in Dundee for over 40 years, the last 5 years as the Chief Executive of Dundee City Council. I retired in November 2014 and in 2015 took up a part-time role as the local Director for the Rank Foundation. Rank invested £3m in 21 local projects in a place-based programme here in Dundee. While working in Dundee I gained an appreciation of the real impact that poverty and deprivation was having on families and young children in the City. On hearing Lindsay graham speak about holiday hunger at the Rank Conference in October 2015 I realised that there was something that we could do to help support young children in the City. The Fun and Food Programme was launched in 2016 and our charity Dundee Bairns incorporated in 2017. Our mission is to ensure that no child goes hungry in Dundee, and with the help of many organisations and individual citizens we will try our best to work towards that goal on a perpetual basis. Young children should not have to go hungry.
